The non-profit organization INDEX: unveiled 61 finalists for its INDEX: Award 2011.
This September, a total sum of 500,000 Euros will be awarded to five winners of the five categories; Body, Work, Home, Play and Community.
2011 finalists include an invisible airbag for cyclists' heads, a commercial airplane that uses solar energy - even at night, a web portal that helps refugees to find missing family members, a bicycle rear wheel that generates electricity when you bike - and stores electricity when you brake, and a project that builds footballs out of used UN relief cardboard boxes.
