Design Thinking Workshops

This workshop series, presented by the Design Exchange in collaboration with ACIDO and the City of Toronto, will provide a greater understanding of the value of Design Thinking and how it can be applied to different industry sectors. Each workshop will focus on real issues and challenges identified by professionals in these areas and how the principles of Design Thinking can be used to creatively facilitate innovative solutions.

Each workshop will begin with an introduction by a leader in the appropriate field and will be facilitated by Design Thinking experts.

$50 per workshop ($40 for DX Members)

April 27 - Manufacturing: "Made in Canada"
9:00am-1:00pm
Focus: This workshop will focus on the challenges that face local / North American manufacturing. It will feature speakers who have helped build successful brands and products by utilizing local manufacturing and even small-scale manufacturing. The workshop activity exercise will have the groups think through and design a product intended to be made locally.

Project: The workshop project will focus on a locally manufactured design using different materials and touch on strategic thinking that will make business viable.

May 17 - Retail and Service Design: "Re-Invent the Library"
9:00am-1:00pm
Focus: This workshop will focus on challenges that the service industry faces in Canada. Retailers will be examined for both innovation and opportunity. Many opportunities exist to innovate a service model and this session will explore tools to develop new ideas to engage you customers

Project: Re-design the service experience of the library and look at new opportunities for these spaces to better engage the public.

June 14 - Not For Profit - Experience Design: "Re-Imagine Ontario Place Experience - Water Education"
9:00am-1:00pm
Focus: This workshop will focus on both designing "experiences" and focus on challenges that non-profit organizations have with engaging the public. The design of experience involves multiple requirements and touch points. This session will look at how to explore aspects of experience design and how to represent ideas for discussion and evaluation.

Project: Re-Think an aspect of Ontario Place. The group will imagine an aspect of Ontario Place that will engage the public in a water education experience.
