Design Invention - Where Art and Science Collide

Design Invention: Where Art and Science Collide

The British Institute of Interior Design (BIID) will host its 2013 conference at RIBA HQ on June 27, 2013. The theme of this annual one-day conference is "Design Invention: Where Art and Science Collide."

"Design practice is evolving fast, influenced by fresh thinking in approaches, techniques and materials," commented BIID President, Sue Timney. "Our 2013 conference will explore these new dynamics and the changing creative landscape for design to help our audience learn, adapt and draw inspiration from the experiences of global experts and practitioners. We are urging all designers to mark this date in their diaries now and make sure they check in regularly with the BIID website for news on headline speakers and topics as they are confirmed."

The 2012 conference, entitled "Celebrating British Design," attracted an audience of more than 170 people and featured high profile speakers from a range of design disciplines. These included Sir Paul Smith, Deyan Sudjic, Director of the Design Museum, Glenn Adamson, Head Researcher at the V&A, and Katy Lithgow, Head of Conservation at the National Trust, amongst others.

The conference also sees the award of BIID Honorary Fellowships. In 2012 BIID Honorary Fellowships were presented to Sir Paul Smith, Zandra Rhodes, Andreas von Einsiedel, Dr Paul Thompson and Graham Watts, OBE.
