Each year, Engine Company 1 and its longstanding client the Monterey Bay Aquarium collaborate on new and inventive ways to bring the Aquarium's message to life. This year's campaign encourages people to Share the Experience, Share the Love, and the sharing begins with a roving submarine.
The Fintastic Voyager will appear at high-traffic locations throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, including San Francisco's Union Square, Justin Herman Plaza, and select Giants and A's games. Visitors to the interior of the submarine will be met by "The Crew" and offered views through the portholes of a "Fintastic" underwater adventure as the sub "descends" over 3000 meters into the Pacific Ocean.
"We drew inspiration from theme park rides, museum exhibits and other immersive environments. And we worked with a team seasoned in creating exhibits, so the dive might feel real enough to make people forget they're still on land," said Engine Company 1 producer Quincey Firth, who was charged with transforming the Airstream.
This underwater experience is a part of a larger communications plan that includes TV, radio, print, online and out-of-home executions.
