From the Bay launched its first collection designed by Jonas Wagell during NYCxDesign in May. The collection includes Propellor Table, Pool Mirror, Stick Hook, Pin Bowls, Nightfall Light and Wander Light.
"My design is focused on functional items rather than artistic objects," Wagell commented. "I appreciate products that can be used every day and be part of people's lives. I believe affection and emotion are more important than exclusive and expensive materials. My aim is to create simplistic objects that are intuitive and easy to use but try to add something personal and expressive. I've come to call this generous minimalism."
Propellor Tables
Propellor is a set of uncomplicated tables with a lightweight look but heavy-duty construction. They are an interpretation of a typical café table with a tripod base, pole and tabletop, but with simplified forms and scaled down for a graphic and playful regeneration. They may be used singly as compact side tables or grouped in varying heights and colors for a bouquet of tables. Pool Mirrors
Pool is a range of three wall mirrors with a simplistic and humble character. The form is effectively a marriage of square and round providing a contemporary look to fit many rooms and settings. Use them as single pieces or combine the mirrors in sizes and colors. Stick Hook
Stick is a minimalistic interpretation on the archetype of a hook, with an oversized and playful expression. The reduced form is based on the shape of a wood stick cut in half. The simplistic expression is emphasized with a concealed wall fixture bracket. Pin Bowls
Pin bowls are a set of decorative multi-purpose containers to keep everyday objects in a finish to mimic bisque porcelain. The group includes three bowls with friendly round shapes and delicate legs that elevate them off table and countertops. Nightfall Light
Nightfall has a soft humble form reduced to a pair of visible shapes suspended in the air with a simple cord. It combines two variations of a pendant light, an aluminum shade and a glass globe, for a strong graphic form. As such it provides both soft ambient light and direct illumination for use over a table or for general lighting. Wander Light
Wander is a new portable table lamp that takes its inspiration from traditional Asian rice lamps but has a minimal, contemporary style and is made of curved heavy wire and opaline glass. The curved handle gives the lamp a playful character that welcomes moving the lamp. The wire has a light expression and simple construction. The opal glass creates a diffused light dimmable to adjust the intensity - from bright and clear, to low and cozy.
This collection of subtle, simplistic objects that are intuitive and easy to use will be the first in a series of future designer collaborations from the brand.
