LG Corporate Design Center is the Design Team of the Year 2006

The title "Design Team of the Year 2006" goes to Korea LG Corporate Design Center - creator of a digital lifestyle

The LG Corporate Design Center is the design team of the year 2006. This is only the second time that the highest distinction of the renowned red dot design award, which is awarded by an international jury, goes to the design department of an Asian company. Sony is the only Asian company who previously managed to get this title in 2000. With the distinction 'design team of the year' the red dot design award has annually honoured a design team which is characterised by continuously innovative design, thus setting standards, since 1988. The title 'design team of the year' has been won in the past by companies such as Apple, adidas, Pininfarina, Mercedes-Benz, Nokia, Audi and frogdesign. The festive awards presentation of the red dot award: product design 2006 including the speech in honour of the LG Corporate Design Center by the laudatory speaker Giorgetto Giugiaro, president of Italdesign Giugiaro, will take place on 26 June 2006 in the Essen Opera House, the Aalto Theatre.

Similar to many other Asian companies, LG was more of a pursuer for a long time, before the Korean electronics company started impressing the industry with a stringent use of forms in product design and a coherent brand appearance in business communication and marketing in the last years, thus consistently conveying the company's philosophy, which can be summarised in LG's slogan "Life's good". "LG have a position of their own and set trends with products such as the wall mounted projector," says Professor Dr. Peter Zec, initiator of the red dot design award and president of the international umbrella organisation of design Icsid. He further explains the selection of the company as design team of the year: "Via technology and design, LG has made the step from pursuer to contender. All its activities and products focus on human needs in the digital age."

The laudatory speech will be held by the Italian industrial designer Giorgetto Giugiaro, Italdesign, who has designed automobiles such as the VW Golf I and the Fiat Panda among others, but also Lamborghinis, Maseratis and the Saab 9000.
