Planet Propaganda Plays on Jazz-Hounds' Passions with Package Design for Ben Sidran's Limited Edition "Talking Jazz" Box Set

Planet Propaganda designed the packaging and 80-page booklet for "Talking Jazz," Ben Sidran's limited edition CD box set. The 24-disc collection features rare conversations from 60 legendary jazz musicians including Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Wynton Marsalis, Keith Jarrett, Herbie Hancock, Sonny Rollins, McCoy Tyner, Max Roach, Art Blakey and more.

With only 1,000 sets in release, Planet created a functional, display case worthy of passionate jazz collectors who will appreciate its exclusivity. The box's interior contents are presented in a visually coded system for listeners to easily identify the artists and their instruments on any the two dozen CDs. Extensive notes and essays from Gene Lees, Michael Cuscuna, Peter Straub, Ben Sidran and Craig Werner compliment the recordings. The entire package is unified with typography, texture and images from one of the genre's most recognized photographers, Lee Tanner.

"More than a year ago, Ben came to us with the desire to release interviews from his NPR radio program 'On the Record with Ben Sidran.' We worked together to create a presentation and packaging system that is uniquely Sidran, something that appeals to the most rabid jazz fans, and something that also respects the established style of such industry icons as Blue Note," says Greg Wold, Planet Propaganda's brand manager.

A musician and music lover himself, Wold continues, "During the '80s, Ben spoke with some of jazz's finest musicians. While many of these creative minds are now gone, their voices, their music and their stories remain. Jazz is all about telling stories, linking themes and truths together, and inspiring the listener. 'Talking Jazz' is the conversational equivalent. Some of the tales are sober and serious, some hopped up and wild, but all are based in fact. Musicians, especially jazz musicians, are the interpreters of these facts teaching us about philosophy, history, art and life in general."

"Talking Jazz" is produced by Nardis Music and distributed through Mosaic Records and CDBaby.com for $249.00.
