Transport Efficiency: 2020 Winners of the VDA Design Award 2008

Transport Efficiency 2020 was the theme of this years VDA Design Award for design students all over the world. Since 2005 this award has been announced by the German Association of the Automotive Industry in cooperation with the German Design Council. The winners of the first three prizes will be awarded with prize money and and internship at the automotive companies that support the design competition. This years award ceremony took place on the occasion of the IAA Commercial Vehicles fair in Hanover on September 26th 2008.

"Commercial Vehicles are not toys, but are an integral part of a complex transport chain forming the backbone of an expanding economy on a global market," stressed Matthias Wissmann, President of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), describing the high standards for the 4th VDA Design Award dedicated to "Transport Efficiency in 2020." The challenge was taken up by 35 students of transportation design at universities in India, Japan, Serbia, the UK, Austria and Germany.

"The entries convinced the jury because of their high quality", said Andrej Kupetz, Managing Director of the German Design Council. The German Design Council again supported the VDA by organizing the design competition. "In times of shortage resources efficient solutions by design are in great demand."

The jury consists of members of the VDA, the German Design Council and members of the supporting companies from the commercial vehicles industry awarded seven entries. The award ceremony took place on the occasion of the IAA Commercial Vehicles fair in Hanover on September 26th 2008. Until October 2nd 2008 all selected works can be seen in an exhibition in the fair. Furthermore a catalogue has been published with the winning works.
