The American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion recently announced that it has selected three honorees as part of its Diversity Recognition Program. Now in its third year, the Diversity Recognition program recognizes architects, component chapters, and others who are actively committed to increasing diversity and inclusion within the architecture profession.
"The DRP celebrates the best practices by AIA members, components, schools and firms to diversify the architectural profession," writes 2011 juror Clarence Kwan, AIA, who was instrumental in the development of the Diversity Recognition Program while a member of the former AIA Diversity Committee. "It showcases how different folks design the processes that meet their needs. Hopefully others can learn from these examples and implement their own plans."
Honorees for the 2011 AIA Diversity Recognition Program are:
Carol Kurth, FAIA (Bedford, NY) - Fostering Diversity through Teaching, Mentoring and Practice
Dougherty & Dougherty Architects, LLP (Costa Mesa, CA) - Firm-wide Focus on Creating a Diverse Practice
Shepley Bulfinch (Boston, MA) - Forging a Diverse Culture
Submissions by this year's award recipients will be exhibited at the 2011 AIA National Convention and Design Exposition in New Orleans, and will be available for viewing at the AIA's Diversity and Inclusion web page in May.
