RIBA and CPI Launch a Free and Digitised Data Edition of Uniclass Online

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and the Construction Project Information committee (CPI) have launched Uniclass Online, a fully digitised and free online edition of the Uniclass construction classification system.

Uniclass Online provides a free and integrated construction classification system to assist construction professionals, particularly those committed to a Building Information Modelling (BIM) approach as promoted by the Government's construction strategy. Using the latest Semantic Web and open data standards, Uniclass Online also aligns with the Government's open data programme.

Uniclass Online is funded by the Technology Strategy Board, and undertaken jointly by the RIBA Technical Research department and the University of the Arts London. The resource is part of the construction industry's trend to delivering dynamic online resources which can be referenced, re-used and imported into BIM software.

"Uniclass Online is an important step towards making better quality, relevant data readily available to support the design and construction process," said Anne Dye, RIBA Head of Technical Research. "The RIBA is delighted to be working with the CPI on this initiative."
