On view at WantedDesign this spring, Mobius is a flashy installation designed by Louis Lim for 3form. The interactive, circular bench is responsive to vibration. When activated, light flows through the bench with water-like ease.
Louis Lim, traditionally a woodworker, took up residency at 3form for five weeks earlier this year. There, he was given a new material to work with, Dark Chroma, and allowed to experiment with it using 3form's fabrication capabilities. "Black is the absence of light, it is space and void, yet Dark Chroma expresses color, light and form," Lim commented. "I find this paradox beautiful, mysterious and magical-making it perfect for Mobius."
In an unlit state, Dark Chroma is moody and rich. When lit, it comes to life allowing the color spectrum to shine through with brightness and clarity. Lim designed the whimsical shape of the bench to evoke joy and encourage people to interact with each other and the piece in a new and playful way.
Mobius will be on display at WantedDesign Manhattan from May 19-23, 2017.
